SINGING FOR CHARITY

Start time:

17th July 07:30

Finish time:

17th July 00:00

Venue:

Wymondham Abbey

Description:

Now in its 30th anniversary year, Wymondham Choral Society will be presenting a concert of British choral music in Wymondham Abbey on Saturday 17th July, at 7.30 pm. The programme, directed by Claire Dixon and helping to raise funds for Alzheimer?s Society, will include two of Stanford?s most popular pieces: ?Songs of the Fleet? and ?The Blue Bird?, together with Elgar?s ?Four Latin Motets? and Vaughan Williams? ?Five Mystical Songs?. Two choral works by local composer Anthony Joule will also be sung. David McKee is the Baritone soloist, and Norwich Cathedral Organist David Dunnett, accompanying the choral items, also features in a solo piece. Tickets priced at ?10 (?5 for under-16s) will be on sale at Reeves in Wymondham (01953 602297), Prelude Records in Norwich (01603 628319), or on the door.

The Society performs three major concerts a year and in 2001 they decided to support a local charity at each one. The first of these was the East Anglian Children?s Hospice at Quidenham, which they continue to support at regular intervals. Others include Macmillan Cancer Relief, the Priscilla Bacon Lodge, Riding for the Disabled, the Nancy Oldfield Trust (Sailing for the Disabled), the East Anglian Air Ambulance, the Wymondham & Attleborough Talking Newspaper, Wymondham & Attleborough Citizens Advice Bureau, Wymondham Abbey Appeal, the Norfolk Heart Trust (Balloons4Hearts), the Mancroft Advice Project (Helping Young People Find Their Way), Stepping Stones (Life Skills for Young People), Get Away From It All (holidays arranged by the Mothers? Union Christian Care for Families) and the Norfolk Deaf Association. Their forthcoming concert will help to raise funds for Alzheimer?s Society, and the Norfolk Family Mediation Service has been nominated for their Christmas concert in Attleborough on December 4th.

Because Wymondham Choral Society itself is a charity, it cannot by law simply donate to another charity; that phrase ?will help to raise funds for ....? is the only solution. It means that the Society provides an attraction and a venue, at which the designated charity can itself address the public and engage in fund-raising activities.

What more pleasant way of helping Alzheimer?s Society on a summer evening?
